ABOUT US
How It Began
Linus Creek came about in the same way that most good things do - with the meeting of two people destined to become friends and compatriots. Pilot, photographer, and cyclist Brad Pretzer had been making small batches of wine, mead, and beer in the garage of his home as a hobby for several years. When he met Will Meyers, Brewmaster at Cambridge Brewing Company and friend of all things fermentable, he invited Will to join him in the next season's grape crush. One season's winemaking led to another and the two of them realized that they were consistently producing exceptional wines. Their friends realized this too, and Brad and Will quickly understood that they couldn't possibly produce enough in their small winery to share with everyone.
What We're Doing Now
"Next year, let's crush a ton of grapes!" they agreed, and then observed that the garage and crawl space at Brad's would not accommodate this endeavor. Enter their friend Bob Antia, all-around great guy and proprietor of the forthcoming Crefft Spirits distillery. At his invitation Brad and Will moved their operation into a small "poet's cabin" in the woods on Bob's property. Discussion of the capital needed to increase their production from a few hundred pounds of grapes to a ton per year to accommodate demand brought about the idea of a cooperative winery, based on the current fashionable model of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). And this finds us here today to celebrate the inauguration of an artisanal home winery under the direction of Brad and Will, which will allow many of their friends to join in the experience of crafting their own wines from grape to glass.
What's With the Cow?
Truth be told, we named our winery after a cow! Linus is the name of Bob's first cow, not the creek running through his property. But hey, Linus is a friendly cow and animals always make good mascots for wineries.
